Maintaining great rapport with your Remote Staff

Like any business owner, you’d want to keep things interesting and fresh for your staff. In a continuously evolving market in an ever-changing world, staying still or playing it safe just won’t do. You need to be always on your toes and keep pace.

This concept also goes the same for the people who make up your business—whether they are a team based in an office or a hired staff from the Philippines (or any other country for that matter) who works remotely. You wouldn’t want them to be doing the same thing over and over again for the next 10 years or so. Rather, you’d want to keep them excited for what else is to come. Not because you fear losing them, but because you’d want both of your journeys to become meaningful.

Recognizing your team’s worth

As a business owner, one of the ways you can bring the best out of your company is by bringing out the best in your employees. As the saying goes, “Employees are a company’s greatest asset”. You’ve invested in these people knowing they can bring forth growth to the business, and they too have taken the role to create a difference in the world.

According to Patty McCord, former Chief Talent Officer at Netflix, being able to acknowledge your staff’s worth encourages them to do better in their jobs three times more than they usually would.

After all, this is a journey for them as it is for you. Make their journey something that they would be proud of. You won’t gain anything from controlling your staff too much, and ruling with an iron fist. Instead, there’s more to gain for allowing them to learn and thrive.

Staying aligned with your team

It is a must that everyone in your team understands what the business is all about and where it is headed. Having a one-time presentation of objectives just won’t do, especially when you are constantly improving your processes. There must be a conscious effort to collaborate, exchange ideas, identify your goals, and reflect on what truly matters in your business, in order for everyone to be aligned towards what you want to achieve.

If you’re an employer who manages a remote team, say for example a team of virtual assistants from the Philippines, there is all the more reason for you to stay connected with your staff. There is a challenge of distance, a gap which you may be able to address through various technologies such as Skype, Zoom, or Workplace by Facebook. You may even reach out to your staff, perhaps through an Account Manager, just like how it goes with us at Remote Staff.

Reaching new heights

Education doesn’t stop once an individual graduates from school. People are naturally curious beings predisposed to learning new things. And in a work environment, continuous learning is key to innovating and adapting to the changing demands of the market. Expose your remote staff to various training or seminars/webinars for them to better hone their skills. People want to do work that means something, and supporting their career growth this way speaks volumes on how you view them not just as employees, but also as partners in your success.

Albert Einstein said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile”. This doesn’t just apply to the customers your businesses are serving, but also, to your team. Having a career is a journey. And for most staff members, making a living is not just about earning money, but also having a life. Being able to connect with your staff by respecting them, and giving value to their worth, can only solidify your relationship with them. Making a career worthwhile for your staff makes their journey more fulfilling; and success, more worthwhile for you.
